Therapists

We appreciate that clients will want to work with suitably qualified therapists who are trained, experienced and enthusiastic. We ensure that for your protection all therapists are members of professional psychotherapy and counselling organisations and strictly adhere to their codes of conduct. They keep up to date with developments in their chosen field of work and undertake continuing professional development.

If you are looking at this page you are probably thinking of seeing a therapist. It is a big step as it takes courage to confront and solve problems and it can be a painful process. Many people decide to avoid feelings which may be difficult or painful but the very avoidance often results in greater pain and the inability to grow as a person both mentally and spiritually.

I specialise in counselling psychotherapy and personal development and self-discovery.

I have a particular interest in working with people who have had early trauma or psychological pain and loss and people suffering from anxiety work related difficulties relationship difficulties and people wanting to focus upon areas of self-development and self-improvement.

I believe therapy is a journey to discover more about self or even find our self. No two journeys are the same. Although each journey is unique people seem to have a common theme of wanting to find more satisfying ways of living their lives.

I see my primary job as providing you with a respectful and reliable space within which you can reflect and explore and experiment with feelings beliefs and interpersonal behaviour. For some people this is a new and important journey

I began my own journey in 1996 and have worked with people on a wide range of difficulties and problems am very interested in the work I do. People often say to me ‘Isn’t your job all about listening to peoples problems’? I often say to them that listening skills in many respects have been lost in our modern society and people often don’t have anyone around them who knows how to listen to them or how to support them. Perhaps even more surprisingly many of us have lost the ability to listen to ourselves. I also play a very active role in providing you with opportunities to grow and make changes.

Counselling is for anyone who needs support in talking things out and thinking things through to find a creative way forward in an aspect of life. It can offer you a safe space to address a personal issue with a trained and empathic professional.

I offer counselling at premises in Upton-by-Chester. I work with adults, one-to-one and mainly on a short-term basis. As well as seeing private clients, I also provide services for 2 charitable trusts and 2 Employee Assistance Programmes.

Clients come to me with a range of issues, particularly:

  • Stress
  • Loss in its many aspects
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Mid-life and other transitions
  • Relationships
  • Self-worth and Confidence
  • Life-direction and Purpose
  • Identity
  • Spirituality

My core training is psycho-dynamic, though I integrate other approaches depending on the individual client and the stage of work most appropriate to that. If appropriate, I may also suggest therapeutic writing activities between sessions to help progress our work.

My fees are £40 per session.

A session that is cancelled at under 24 hours’ notice or missed without prior notice is chargeable.
